Oil painting is developing quickly in China. In this situation, it is the China Oil Painting Society's mission to fit into the pattern of China and world culture and guide Chinese oil painting development generally. Consisting of experts and scholars of painters, researchers and teachers in oil painting from all over the country, the Society is a purely independent legal entity and a non-govenmental academic organization. The foundation of the Society will make historic contribution to the expansion and academic level upgrade of oil painting in China.

The council, the relative departments of the Society and the local oil painting associations are composed of famous Chinese contemporary artists. With near 40 organization members, the Society operates smoothly and provides administrative service for academic activities and cultural exchange with foreign countries.

With the principle: "keep a sincere heart, focus reality, encourage national spirit and pursue variety of styles", the Society organizes academic exhibition, theory symposium and oil painting academic exchange with foreign countries, introduces Chinese contemporary oil painting to the world as part of the Chinese culture, rewards in recognition of excellent works of arts and research, publishes academic newspapers and magazines, such as the Society's newspaper "Art of Chinese Oil Painting" and "Newsletter of Chinese Oil Painters" to promote oil painting's development in China. The society will also establish a database for Chinese oil painters. Besides, it will sponsor "high level oil painting research symposium" and invites foreign country experts to introduce experiences of those successful foreign artist in order to train painters of talent, strengthen oil painting art exchange and upgrade Chinese oil painting to a higher level.

With unity, initiative, sense of mission, confidence, enthusiasm and the experts in oil painting, the Society will vigorously promote the development of oil painting in China.
