Objective
Difference/Difference
The interest for Korean culture in Asia has risen due to
the recent outpour of Korean movies, soap operas, and popular
music, so called "Hallyu-Korean Wave." The word
"Asia" now goes beyond its purely geographical meaning,
indicating an unified cultural region. Each and every Asian
countries have nurtured its own unique history and culture-
it is in our differences that we exchange culturally and influence
and be influenced. Finding beauty in diversity is our goal
in organizing the Third Dashanzi Korean Film Festival.
Foreword
The films of Dashanzi Korean Film Festival were chosen to
show the diverse characteristics of Korean independent films.
The Seoul Independent Film Festival 2005 Special Section was
selected focusing on animations that received much attention
from numerous festivals, such as “A Walk” which depicted the
uncanny relationship between a mother and a daughter, and
“Paradise,” directed by KIM Jong-Kwan who has presented some
very sensational independent films.
The second Section is called NEXT. Its focal point is on the
directors who compel us to anticipate future works by the
works shown here. All of them are very unique and interesting.
Of course, the films screened here are not what all independent
films are like; they are only a small part, but all have the
ability of showing the present and future of Korean independent
films. They were chosen based on the factors of both artistic
merits and entertainment values. Please enjoy.
Lastly, I hope that there will be more to come in the Dashanzi
Korean Film Festival.
