| 2006 China International Gallery Exposition 3rd
edition (CIGE) will be held from April 12 to April 16,2006 in
the exhibition hall of China World Trade Centre. Ninety-seven
galleries from seventeen countries and regions will participate
in CIGE. These include some famous galleries such as Marlborough
Gallery of the U.S, Galerie Laurent Godin of France, Gallery
Kukje and Gallery Hyundai of Korea. It is the first time these
top-ranking galleries are take part in CIGE. It is also the
second time for galleries like Galerie Christian Nagle of Germany,
Galleria Continua of Italy to participate in CIGE. 2006 CIGE
is always with the steady support of Chinese galleries, include
Shanghart gallery, CAAW and Eslite Gallery and so on. The participation
of a group of fourteen Korean galleries will also represent
the highest level of Korean art gallery market.
The Executive Director of CIGE, Ms. Wang Yihan introduced
this event. The expectations for CIGE 2006 are much greater
than the last two years. Although it is the first time that
Marlborough Gallery and Gallery Kukje will participate; both
of them have booked eight booths in the exhibition. This illustrates
the fact that it is not an exploratory participation for overseas
galleries. Foreign exhibitors come well prepared and have
more confidence with China Art Market and CIGE.
These top-level galleries will exhibit artworks by world
renowned artists in 2006 CIGE, such as Claude Monet, Pablo
Picasso, Andy Warhol, Amedeo Modigliani, and Chinese artists
Cai Guoqiang, Xu Bin, Fang Lijun, Liu Xiaodong, Wang Du and
so on..
During the exhibition of CIGE, there will be a forum for
two days. The speakers are five international curators and
five international collectors, especially the five famous
curators. These include the director of the Korean pavilion
in Venice Biennale and curator of Gwangju Biennale Sunjing
Kim; Ex-curator of Tokyo pavilion in Paris Museum and curator
of Centre Pompidou Jerohe San; the international senior art
observer and critic and the author of “Art Now” Uta Grosenick;
the editor and publisher of “Asian Art City” Takahiko Honda;
and the curator of China National Museum of Fine Arts Fan
Di’an.
CIGE focus its work on inviting and serving VIP guest this
year. The Chinese famous sculpture and construction artist
Mr. Zhong Song designed a VIP Room with modern style in the
exhibition hall. All the VIP guest of CIGE could enjoy the
good service and have a rest in VIP Room. The first day is
the pre-exhibition of CIGE, which is only opened to VIP. The
most formal activity of CIGE will be its VIP return banquet
in China World Hotel in the evening from 20:00 to 22:30 on
April12. There will be around 500 VIP guests, include international
collectors, ambassadors in China, official governors and social
celebrities.
Marlborough Gallery
Founded in London in 1946, Marlborough Gallery is widely
recognized as one of the world’s leading contemporary art
dealers. Initially embracing a new generation of post-World
War II artists including Henry Moore, Francis Bacon, Graham
Sutherland and Ben Nicholson, the gallery was soon selling
masterpieces of the late 19th century including bronzes and
paintings.
Marlborough Gallery has represented such seminal artists
as Jacques Lipchitz, David Smith, Robert Motherwell, Phillip
Guston, Adolph Gottlieb, and the estates of Jackson Pollock
and Franz Kline. Today Marlborough continues to expand internationally
with major new galleries in Madrid, Monte Carlo, and Santiago
to compliment its long-established outposts in New York (two
galleries) and London.
As the first time Marlborough gallery participate in 2006
CIGE, it has booked eight booths, it will bring artworks of
both Chinese artists’ such as Wang Keping, TieYing, Yun Gee,
and foreign artists’ such as Fernando Botero, Manolo Valdés.
More important is they will also bring the estate of Chen
Yifei (1946-2005)’s “Tibetan Man” and “Trois Femmes à la Fontaine”
of Pablo Picasso’s (1881-1973).
Kukje Gallery
Since opening in 1982, Kukje Gallery has been at the forefront
in representing the most current and significant tendencies
in Korean and international contemporary art. The gallery
has established itself as a leading venue for showing works
by major international figures such as Alexander Calder, Joseph
Beuys, Eva Hesse, Louise Bourgeois, Ghada Amer, Candida H?fer
and Bill Viola. Its exhibitions provide the rare opportunity
for Korean art audiences to view the works of world-renowned
contemporary artists without going abroad. Kukje Gallery also
plays an important role in promoting Korean artists. The gallery
has an unmatched reputation for introducing artists such as
Lee Bul, Chun Kwang-Young and Cho Duck-Hyun to domestic and
international audiences through its exhibition program and
its participation in art fairs and exhibitions worldwide.
Kukje Gallery is one of the two galleries who booked eight
booths in 2006 CIGE. It will bring artworks of Alexander Calder,
Donald Judd, Damien Hirst, Gerhard Richter, Louise Bourgeo
Yeondoo Jung, Kwang-Young Chun, Lee Bul.
Galleria Continua
Galleria Continua was founded by Mario Cristiani, Lorenzo
Fiaschi and Maurizio Rigillo in 1990 with the intention, evident
in the name, to give continuity to contemporary art in a landscape
rich with the signs of ancient Italian art.
Its new centre in Beijing is the result of the desire to
show western contemporary artists in an area where they are
still scarcely visible and largely unknown. Through this new
channel of communication Galleria Continua would like to initiate
a dialogue between East and West, bringing two different cultural
and operating models together, each filled with stimulating
prospects.
They will bring the artworks of Chen zhen’s “Field of Synergy”
and so on.
Galerie Christian Nagel
Galerie Christian Nagel was established in Cologne in 1990,
it represented the artists of the specific concepts and attitudes.
In January 2002, it opened a branch gallery at the Rosa Luxembourg
place in Berlin. It participated with important exhibition
and forum all over the world, i.e. the Biennale Venice, the
sculpture project cathedral, Carnegie Pittsburgh as well as
numerous single and group exhibitions in museums and art associations.
It also participates in the following fairs: Armory Show,
Basel, Basel Miami Beach and so on.
In 2006 CIGE, it will bring the artworks such as Cornelius
Quabeck’s “Phunga”; Ingeborg Gabriel’s “Ohne Titel”; Lutz
Braun’s “Perrum” and so on.
Galerie URS MEILE and CAAW
Galerie URS MEILE (founded 1992) is dealing with the promotion
and mediation of high quality contemporary art. The gallery
established artist form China and Europe.
Galerie URS MEILE and CAAW- Chinese Art Archives &
Warehouse – Beijing, China, (founded 1993) formed a partnership
in 2003. With this collaboration an important pool for high
quality contemporary art from China came into being.
In January 2006 the Galerie URS MEILE opened up its own
gallery premises in Beijing as an addition to the existing
CAAW exhibition spaces. Under the artistic direction of Ai
Weiwei, the CAAW is showing the latest tendencies in Chinese
contemporary art as well as international group exhibitions
and events.
The artworks they will exhibit are “Untitled (nurse-autumn)”
by Wang Xingwei, “Water no.1” by Meng Huang, “Qingling Young
Pioneers” by Li Songsong, “Dropping a Han Dynasty Urn” by
Ai Weiwei and so on.
SHANGHART Gallery
ShanghART was established in 1996 in Shanghai with the aim
is to identify, support and promote the people which are at
the core of the artistic creativity in China. With ten years
of experience in the middle of the artistic development here,
ShanghART’s expertise on contemporary Chinese art, the scope
and quality of the artists represented by the gallery is unrivaled.
Out of the many artists active in China today, ShanghART
has over the years selected and established long term working
relationships with many of the most innovative and significant
figures. ShanghART represents now artists from all the different
generations active in China today and covers all possible
media.
Many of the best artists from all over China choose to
work with ShanghART. They include Zeng Fanzhi, Wang Guangyi,
Zhao Bandi and Wang Yousheng from Beijing, Wei Guangqing from
Wuhan, Tang Guo from Nanjing and Geng Jianyi based in Hangzhou
etc. In 2006 CIGE, artworks such as Zhou Tiehai’s “Coronation
of the Virgin”, Zeng Fanzhi’s “The Death of republic of soldiers”,
Yang Fudong’s “Seven Intellectuals in Bamboo forest” and Tang
Maohong’s “Orchid Finger” etc.
Eslite Gallery
Founded in Taipei, 1989, Eslite is one of the few leading
galleries dedicated to the promotion of modern and contemporary
art in Taiwan. Esilite Gallery represents over 15 Chinese
artists internationally, including those from local Taiwan,
China, the United States, France, Germany, etc. The long-term
goal of Eslite Gallery is to broaden its scope from the present
focus on art of Taiwan and China to a de facto international
gallery representing major contemporary artists from all over
the world.
The exhibited artworks for 2006 CIGE of Eslite will be
Michael Lin’s “The Contemporary Museum, Honolulu”; Tsui Kuang
Yu’s “Eighteen Copper Guardians in Shao-Lin Temple and Penetration:
The Perceptive”; Liu Xiao Dong’s “The Valley of Daemon II”
and so on.
Galerie Laurent Godin
Galerie Laurent Godin is created in September 2005, the
gallery's program focuses on both the French and international
contemporary art scene.
It is Keen to transcend medium-related questions and to
mix different generations, the gallery represents artists
from multiple horizons that use painting, photography and
animated images as well as installations or sculpture.
In the exhibition, they will bring Wang Du’s “Missile”,
“Le Baiser”; Gérard Traquandi’s “BIGH 0205 and XXLH 0705 (Telemark)”;
Corinne Marchetti’s “J’ai une vie très glamour, ce qui n’exclut
pas le drame” and “Heureux-Joyeux” and so on.
